What To Wear Wednesday | Senior Portraits for the Guys

This week’s look is another borrowed from friend and photographer Lisa Dillon.  These senior looks are from Buckle.com and Aeropostale.com but you can mix and match pieces from just about anywhere to create unique looks.  As with the girl looks accessories are key - bring different belts, bracelets, shoes, glasses, etc for every outfit.  Wear a variety of shorts, jeans and khakis, some casual outfits and at least one on the dressy side.

What to Wear Wednesday | Senior Girls! | And a brief update…

So wow, it’s Wednesday again??  Somehow today just creeped up on me but it’s to be expected because the last few weeks have been NUTS here!  The short version - I mentioned in my last newsletter that we “may” put our house on the market.  Well “may” turned into listing and listing turned into SOLD in two (very short) weeks.  We are building our new home which will be completed in late November so this means we get to find a short term rental house for the next 5-6 months.  Between meetings with the architect/bank/realtor/etc. and having to leave the house for showing I have managed to fall just a little behind here.  And now you add to it rental house shopping, packing, more meetings with architect/bank/realtor/etc. in addition to managing a very busy summer shooting schedule and frankly I am one tired photographer!  I am going to do my best to make all of these changes as seamless as possible for clients, there will be some downtime as we get my office functioning in a new place but my sincere wish is to keep going at a normal pace.  We’ll see!

Oh and I just have to mention that I spent yesterday at Victory Junction Gang Camp again with my Flashes of Hope peeps and had the absolute best time possible.  I just can’t ever put into words how amazing this camp is, you must click the link and check it out if you haven’t already:

I photographed 30 (!!!) kids in front of a race car while a pit crew (of 10 year olds) did their thing behind me.  You couldn’t hear a thing I was saying (and I have no voice today!)  but that didn’t matter one bit, these beautiful kids make my job easy.  I will share photos when I get them ready to go!

But back to the topic at hand - CLOTHES!  Because this week has been bananas I have borrowed today’s looks from a great friend and photographer Lisa Dillon.  And frankly I will probably borrow from her again next week for senior guys, she does a fabulous job teen shopping!  And I should note that these looks are a collaboration between a group of professional photographers to assist our clients.  We have contacted stores before using their photos.  If you are a photographer and would like to use the photos on your blog please contact us first.  Thank you!

Senior sessions are all about fashion, looking good and channeling your inner Top Model.  Play up accessories and accent pieces.  Bring different shoes, earrings, necklaces, sunglasses, etc. for every look.  Those details make a huge difference in your portraits.  Make sure pieces fit well (not too tight because they may create bulges you don’t want!) and not to short/low cut.  Pour over fashion mags in the weeks before your session and have the outfits pressed and on hangers before we start shooting.  You can visit my smp|TEEN site here: www.seasonmoorephotography.com/teen Senior sessions rock!

What to Wear Wednesdays | This one’s for the girls (and the fam)

This post was intended to be for the girls but I heard through the grapevine people appreciate seeing family looks all put together so I will throw in a coordinated family group as well.  Girls can be easier to dress than boys because it seems like you can find something cut for girls just about everywhere you go.  But consider accessories and layer to really step it up a notch - and I don’t mean you have to layer with a denim jacket in 90 degree weather but a tank top under a strappy dress and leggings peeking out from underneath can make a cute dress visually interesting as well.

What to Wear Wednesdays | This one’s for the boys

I think it can be tricker to dress boys, a polo is a polo is a polo.  But you can have fun with a boy’s wardrobe too, think outside the box and layer fun colors and patterns to make modern looks.  Bring more than one outfit so we can get a good variety, mix dressier looks with casual and various colors.  Incorperate your son’s favorite things too - sharks, guitars, surf, whatever!  Notice what color has been largely missing from my outfit ideas?  WHITE!  White is commonly thought of as the perfect portrait shirt color but it can also be the most boring and unflattering color.  If you insist on a white shirt for some portraits, please bring me some color too!  These outfits are all from Boden USA.

What to Wear Wednesday | Coordinating Family Portaits

With the holiday I almost forgot what day it is but remembered at the last minute - What to Wear Wednesday!  I decided to throw out a few more family ideas because I think that is what most people struggle with.  Both groups are coordinating (not matching!), and all go together well as one big outfit.  In the first I chose the daughter’s patterned dress and pulled colors from that to bring the family look together.  In the second the accent scarf ties in all colors from the family’s look.  Keep in mind that the colors you choose are the colors that will be hanging large on your wall!  damily-portraits1

But what do I wear for family portraits??

I think most people stress just a little about what to wear for their session (even thought I tell you not to!).  I am working with some other photographers to try and put together outfit ideas weekly to give you inspiration for your session starting this week with what to wear for family portraits.  You do not need to match.  Let me repeat, you do NOT need to match!  Unless you are those people that do walk around matching on a daily basis, try to coordinate your families outfits but please do not all wear the same navy polo shirts and khakis.  Just consider it a personal favor to me ;-)  Choose colors that are flattering to your skin tones and clothing that isn’t tight (especially around the mid section) and isn’t too low cut.  Gap is featured this week and I will probably feature them a good bit.  One of my favorite places for kids and adults, and reasonably priced as well.  When you book your session I will give you a long list of stores to shop from and more specific clothing information.  Just be yourself, don’t be afraid of color and remember layering and accessories can make a big impact on little people and big!
