Headshot FAQs
You may be surprised so find out that Raleigh does not have a large concentration of super models. Almost every person you see on this site is just like you – a professional needing a headshot for a new job, a promotion, a press release, or just a Linkedin update. Many have never had a professional headshot before, most (all?) are nervous about the experience and truthfully…probably not really looking forward to it. So first, know that you’re not alone. If you think they look great, you will look great too. Second, this is the worst part! The stress you feel in planning for this shoot is the only stress, the session is fun – I promise!
What should I wear?
After booking your session I will send a client guide with more details about what to wear. We love saturated colors, black and white can wash you out in photos. Bring clothing neatly pressed and bring multiple options of you’re unsure (tip: wear a camisole for quick changes, men wear a v-neck under dress shirts). Your lower half will not show in headshots so that takes away half the stress!
How should I apply makeup?
I highly recommend professional makeup for women. Even if you’re comfortable with makeup application, makeup for photos is a very different animal. And on top of that, knowing that you will look your absolute best takes all of the stress out of the day and allows you to relax and enjoy the experience. If you’re only updating your images every so often, make sure they are the best they can be.
If professional makeup is not in your budget, you will want to apply make up slightly heavier than you are used to. Accentuate the eyes, get rid of shine and hide blemishes. Bring your make up to the studio in case you need to reapply. For men, powder to take out shine is recommended along with covering blemishes.
What if I don’t know how to pose?
I don’t expect you to! Most people don’t naturally know how to pose for photos, every photo a friend shares of us on Facebook confirms that fact. I will be there to guide you every step of the way from how to smile, how to accentuate your favorite parts of yourself and (ahem) “flatter” your least favorite parts. Remember, all of these other people were in the same boat!
What is included with retouching?
Our goal is to give you an image that looks like the best version of you. Not a plastic filtered version of you, but light retouches to perfect your look. All of our retouching is done by hand. This is a time consuming (and expensive) process but produces the best outcome possible. Standard retouching includes removing yellow from teeth and redness from eyes, removing blemishes, reducing dark circles under eyes. Enhanced retouching is available for a fee. This would include things like background replacement, fixing wrinkles in clothing, thinning the face, etc.
The bottom line is you want to get it right in camera, retouching after can never compare to the real thing (one of the reasons we love professional makeup artists!).
When will I have my proofs back?
Proofs generally take 7 days to be returned to you, and final selected images take a day with the retoucher. A rush option is available if you need your final images sooner, make sure you let us know of your timeline when purchasing that option.
What if I need to reschedule?
I understand that life happens and sometimes you can’t make your session time. I ask for 24 hours notice if at all possible. I do require a session fee to hold your timeslot and that session fee will be applied to your new date.
Do I own the copyright of the photos?
Season Moore Photography, LLC retains copyright to all images. The purchase of your session or image files includes licensing of those images for business or commercial use. This means that you can use the images for all standard promotional and business usage (marketing materials, business cards, websites, etc.) Full buyout of the copyright is available on request for an additional fee.
