Sneak Peek! | Wake Forest Family Portraits

A quick note before the cuteness – the Moore children have gotten hold of the lovely stomach virus going around and while I thought we were in the clear days later the Moore daddy was down last night.  I’m the last man standing and I have to say, Lysol in hand I still do not feel my odds are good.  I am trying to stay on top of my schedule but if there is a delay I do apologize.  I am holding tight to the thought of SPRING around the corner!

This sweet family braved a cold wind for our session and one member was a little less than thrilled to be there (which is not unusual for certain ages, cold wind or not!).  But they are such a fun bunch and I always enjoy our sessions.  Watching all these sweet kids grow up and being just a small part of their life is such a blessing to me!

Sneak Peek! | Cary Newborn Photos

I love this family, we had such a good time during a newborn session that included a little bit of sleeplessness from the star.  She didn’t want to dose when there was clearly a party going on! An absolutely perfect little doll, much like her big sister.  Thanks guys for sharing your sweet babies with me!

Sneak Peek! | Durham Baby Portraits

Brrrr!  This winter has not been so kind to us down here in the south (although I am so so glad it’s been more kind that up in DC right now!) with the coldest winter we have had in quite some time.  We have been rescheduling many sessions but sometimes they just have to go on, despite the chilly temps.  This little beauty was only in town for a short while from Las Vegas so we made the best of a “brisk” (aka COLD) morning and did some playing.  Last time I saw her she was an adorable, chubby baby just sitting up on her own.  In just the blink of an eye she is a gorgeous toddler right on the way to being a little girl.  Loved the pigtails, she is such a doll baby.  Thanks for braving the cold girls!

Displaying your Portraits

Sometimes I show up at a client’s home for a session only to find photos from their last session(s) still sitting in their original packaging (yes, you know who you are!).  Looking at a pile of prints and trying to decide what in the world to do with them is overwhelming for sure – this coming from a person that is in a new house and still trying to decide how to hang my own prints.  I give my clients a wall gallery book to use when ordering (I think deciding on a layout BEFORE you order is the best way to go – filling in the blanks is much easier than starting from scratch) and I am working on making it bigger and better for 2010.  I am also going to incorporate into the shopping cart so you can order an entire grouping in just one click but for those that already have prints in hand, let’s get them on the walls!

I did some googling and found several resources for gallery ideas, some better than others. This article from Apartment Therapy has some cute ideas.  This one shows a photo made into wall paper – that’s some serious commitment to a portrait – but look through the other thumbnail ideas, some super cute stuff.

I do love Pottery Barn but they have a bad habit of putting tiny prints in large matted frames.  Pretty, but unless people stand within a foot of the print they are not able to see them print you’re so in love with.  If you’re a little afraid of going large measure and cut a piece of wrapping paper in the size(s) you’re considering and stick it on the wall.  I think most people are surprised to see that what SOUNDS huge isn’t so when it’s on the wall.  In fact I rarely hear from clients that they ordered too large – generally I hear that they wish they had gone bigger.

Don’t be afraid to go with non standard crops and sizes, measure your wall space and make use of the unique opportunities your home allows.  You can mix color and black and white, mix frames styles, really get as creative as you want.  Please feel free to ask me for help as well.   I really love putting together galleries and seeing the final result – please send me a snapshot of your gallery so I can share it on the blog!  A client sent me the below pictures a few months ago, she has a mix of framed prints and gallery mounts (and a gorgeous home!)

2009 Premier Baby Cover & Survivor Themed Baby Shower | Raleigh Magazine Photographer

In 2009 I had the pleasure of photographing the sweet little model for Premier Baby and Child Magazine.  Below is the shot we chose for the cover, his eyes are absolutely AMAZING!  I also photographed a baby shower with a “Survivor” theme.  The shower took place on a hot, hot, HOT summer day – so much so that the gorgeous food by Premiere Catering was melting before we could get the shots we needed.  Everything was gorgeous and just so creative, see all of the photos on my Facebook page here (and hey, become a fan while you’re there! ;-) .
