Sneak Peek! Raleigh Kids Portraits

I have had so much fun this week getting outdoors. I am normally hitting the winter blues hard right about now but this year we’re running around without shoes on!

*Winter session fees are still discounted through the end of the March but spots are limited. Currently available this month: February 8th (showing another 60 degree day!), 15th, 24th*

Tough love, mommy style.  Some sweet Valentines for you!

Displaying your Portraits

Sometimes I show up at a client’s home for a session only to find photos from their last session(s) still sitting in their original packaging (yes, you know who you are!).  Looking at a pile of prints and trying to decide what in the world to do with them is overwhelming for sure - this coming from a person that is in a new house and still trying to decide how to hang my own prints.  I give my clients a wall gallery book to use when ordering (I think deciding on a layout BEFORE you order is the best way to go - filling in the blanks is much easier than starting from scratch) and I am working on making it bigger and better for 2010.  I am also going to incorporate into the shopping cart so you can order an entire grouping in just one click but for those that already have prints in hand, let’s get them on the walls!

I did some googling and found several resources for gallery ideas, some better than others. This article from Apartment Therapy has some cute ideas.  This one shows a photo made into wall paper - that’s some serious commitment to a portrait - but look through the other thumbnail ideas, some super cute stuff.

I do love Pottery Barn but they have a bad habit of putting tiny prints in large matted frames.  Pretty, but unless people stand within a foot of the print they are not able to see them print you’re so in love with.  If you’re a little afraid of going large measure and cut a piece of wrapping paper in the size(s) you’re considering and stick it on the wall.  I think most people are surprised to see that what SOUNDS huge isn’t so when it’s on the wall.  In fact I rarely hear from clients that they ordered too large - generally I hear that they wish they had gone bigger.

Don’t be afraid to go with non standard crops and sizes, measure your wall space and make use of the unique opportunities your home allows.  You can mix color and black and white, mix frames styles, really get as creative as you want.  Please feel free to ask me for help as well.   I really love putting together galleries and seeing the final result - please send me a snapshot of your gallery so I can share it on the blog!  A client sent me the below pictures a few months ago, she has a mix of framed prints and gallery mounts (and a gorgeous home!)

Sneak Peek! | Raleigh Family Portraits

Wet, overcast, cold - sometimes the session just has to go on despite less than perfect conditions so you make the best of it by say, wearing your rain coat!  The weather did cooperate (and by cooperate I mean it didn’t pour on us) and we were able to get great photos of several generations.  I will include a few photos of the newest generation!

Is that you I see? | Check out my Twitter!

I have had a sick boy home this week which means I fall behind very quickly on client work but I had to find some way to pass the time.  So I decorated my Twitter page with client photos from the last few years.  A software randomly pulled photos and arranged them so I will probably change it out monthly or so.  Go see if you’re there!

Oh and his mystery illness has been diagnosed as Strep throat, a weird, extreme version of it, but Strep nonetheless (no swine flu here thankyouverymuch!) so he’s on antibiotics and was back to driving me crazy today so hopefully tomorrow I will begin to get caught up on proofing and emails!

Chatter, Availability and Luxecetera

Well we survived the weekend (and had a wonderful time) but a crazy weekend like that usually has a price and in my case it is a very, very sick little boy.  Fingers, toes and earlobes crossed that now one else gets his bug.  He is rarely ever sick so when it hits him it hits hard so I am dividing my time today between work and cuddling.  And antibacterializing.

So the scheduling update is that May is (over) booked so unless something changes and a date opens I will be finishing up June’s calendar next.  There are about 4 dates remaining at last check.  Let me know if you are needing a date!

And another little side note for the photographers reading - Lisa Reichman (who does all of the fab graphic design for my site) has joined up with up with two other amazing graphic artists (Eva Talley & Ashley Jankowski) to create a design powerhouse Luxecetera.  After many months of blood, sweat and tears their site went live this weekend and you’re going to flip out at all the photographer’s candy there is to pour through.  So go take a look!  www.luxecetera.com And keep an eye out here for something big and new soon…….
