What to Wear Wednesdays | Dress for your portrait session from Target!

I skipped last week’s What to Wear and it’s not because I forgot but more because what I was creating was looking pretty much like something I created a week before.  I think if you look at the past entries you can see the theme (color, very little use of white, flattering lines and fit on mom, accessories, coordinating family looks and not matching, etc) so I thought I would take a different angle and dress the family from Target.  You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great look for portraits (in fact you probably have the perfect clothes already in your closet!) and this is just one example.  They have alot of cute stuff and who isn’t at Target at least once a week anyway??

I won’t be posting outfits weekly but we’re close to changing seasons (can you believe it??) and I will have some fall looks soon!

Sneak Peek! | Raleigh Childrens Photographer

I have some gorgeous kiddos to share with you!  Oh it was a hot hot day that day!  Thankfully little guys don’t sweat like us big guys and remain adorable as we melt.  Look at these little blondies!  They tolerated the heat, mosquitoes, and even a few tumbles on the hard brick ground all in pursuit of gorgeous portraits.  And we got them!

Sneak Peek! | Wake Forest Newborn Portraits

I know Mom is waiting for these peeks!  This gorgeous girl surprised Mom and Dad by showing up a little early and she was just as perfect as can be.  She was also a little older than the two week window we aim for with newborns but she could not have been any easier to work with.  I love every minute of our session (well except when the dog got out and my lovely parents had to run around the neighborhood in 100 degree weather, I was feeling a little bad that happened :) and I hope you love your portraits!

Sneak Peek! | North Raleigh Childrens Photographer

I love photographing brothers!  They are not usually eager to be photographed so it takes some creativity on my part and I love that challenge.  The jokes are different (interrupting cow), the locations we go to our different - it’s just a ton of fun.  These two were not particularly excited about taking pictures together so we compromised and did a little full action brother fight club shots first.  They were cracking me up and it worked to get them loosened up too!

Flashes of Hope at Victory Junction Gang Camp | Part 1

I had the opportunity once again to visit the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman , NC in June (check out this amazing place here: www.victoryjunction.org).  Victory Junction is a free-of-charge, year-round camp for children with chronic medical conditions and their families.  Per the norm I loaded up the van early that morning in a torrential downpour and arrived at a wet and chilly camp so we once again could not use all of the amazing grounds for our photos.  When we arrive the group of photographers argue over discuss who’s going to shoot where (remember last time my highly artistic shots in front of a cinder block wall?) and I jumped on a building shaped like a giant race car.  No block wall for me, inside we had access to tires, gas cans, engines, and a race care just waiting to be used in the background.  I don’t use much in the way of props in my everyday photography but come on, there are race car drivers here.  We’re going over the top!

Little did I know that as I began shooting also about four feet behind me the kids would begin pit crew-ing.  Every kid would come through and use pneumatic tools to remove tires from a car over and over and over and over and over…(and over) again.  Ever been in the back of a Jiffy Lube during business hours?  It was like that, times 1000 so it was just a little on the L O U D side. But if you ask my kids, I can shout, and I did to direct 30 kids through their portraits.  THIRTY KIDS!  This was all before lunch so when we wrapped I had the most amazingly exhausting time imaginable.

My voice was gone and my back hurt but as usual, I was the one blessed by meeting all of these strong, brave beautiful children.  Most fighting for their life.  I can handle a little backache for these guys.

Thirty kids equals hundreds of proofs to process and prepare and for a one man processing show (me) it takes many many hours to get them ready to go.  The parents of these kids will be receiving prints courtesy of Flashes of Hope (www.flashesofhope.org) and just like the camp itself, they will be receiving these portraits as a gift.  There is just no better thing.

I coudn’t possibly share 30 beautiful faces in one blog post so I will break it down into three posts.  Enjoy the first 10 amazing children I met that day and if you think about it, say a prayer for them and Victory Junction Gang Camp as well.  Miracles are very real there.

Sneak Peek! | Durham Baby Photographer

On thing I love most about working with babies and children is just how much personality is crammed into little tiny bodies.  This little doll was no exception, she kept us laughing the entire session with her expressions.  Absolutely precious!

Sneak Peek | Newborn Photographer

I know Mom is waiting on this peek!  A last minute newborn call that we worked into a nutty schedule, but I am so glad we did!  This beautiful little man was already past the 2 week window when I was able to get out and see him, which can sometimes means a diffult newborn session.  Older babies are usually bigger, more alert and less likely to sleep while I work my magic…but not this little guy.  He was so good to me!  And I had to share a peek of a gorgeous little girl that came by to say hi right at the end, his cousin (who I last saw at her newborn session!).  Safe to safe good genes run in this family!  Thank you for sharing your sweet little ones with me!
